Missing Daughters

Installation, each dress about 45 x 50 cm
paper, linen, thread, lace, embroidery, dyeing

This installation, many little dresses hanging in space, deals with the painful subject of violence against children. The mute, empty pieces of clothing raise the questions who is missing and why? The delicate, innocent dresses project shadows upon the floor and walls, creating and continuing the discourse.

Each dress is made of soft, off-white paper treated in various ways, with techniques including embroidery, sewing and dyeing. Some of the dresses contain pieces taken from old, worn women’s and children’s clothes. The combination and layering of different materials contribute an element of randomness and unpredictability, and the slow and intuitive process brings forth a dialogue with the work itself.
