Missing Daughter 48

2007-2013

45 x 50 cm
Paper, Linen, Thread, Lace,
Embroidering, Dyeing

This little dress is part of the Missing Daughters installation, and explores the painful subject of violence against children. The mute, empty piece of clothing raises the questions who is missing and why?

Each dress is made of soft, off-white paper treated in various ways, with techniques including embroidery, sewing and dyeing. Some of the dresses contain pieces taken from old, worn women’s and children’s clothes. The combination and layering of different materials contribute an element of randomness and unpredictability, and the slow and intuitive process brings forth a dialogue with the work itself.
